The Birth Plan That Actually Works (Even In A Hospital)

Most birth plans are one long page of preferences… and if we’re being honest?

They usually get skimmed (at best).
Or they’re read once during triage and never looked at again.

That’s why I created The Complete Hospital Birth Plan, a system I use with every single one of my doula clients because it’s designed to work in real life, not just on paper.

Why This Birth Plan Is Different:

3 Pages For Your Support Team and 1 For Your Provider

Most birth plans try to cram everything onto one sheet… and honestly? That’s exactly why so many of them don’t get taken seriously.

Because the truth is: your provider isn’t sitting down to study your birth plan like it’s a love letter. They’re scanning it in 10 seconds while juggling a million other things, and if it looks overwhelming, it gets mentally filed under “extra” and ignored.

And no, your provider probably doesn’t care about your essential oils or preferred lighting…

But that doesn’t mean those things aren’t important.

Those details matter a LOT for your experience, because they help you feel calm, grounded, safe, and supported.

So that why this birth plan is divided into 4 parts based on who needs to know what!

It’s Divided By Stages of Labor

Instead of one big list, your provider birth plan is broken down by:

✅ 1st Stage of Labor
✅ 2nd Stage (Pushing + Birth)
✅ 3rd Stage (Placenta + Immediate After Birth)

This structure keeps your preferences simple, clear, and easy to follow without forcing your provider to dig through a wall of text.

Imagine this:

You’re in transition.
Things are intense.
Your OB walks in because it’s time to push.

Most birth plans get scanned over because they’re long, cluttered, and full of things that don’t apply anymore in that exact moment.

But with this birth plan?

Your partner can flip to the 2nd stage section and show your provider exactly what matters right now, like pushing preferences, positions, and how you want to be supported.

No extra fluff.
No confusion.
Just clarity.

It’s Divided By Stages of Labor

You don’t need to be “the perfect patient” to have a great birth.

You just need:

  • a clear plan

  • the ability to communicate it

  • a support person who knows where to look

  • a provider who isn’t overwhelmed trying to interpret it

This is how you set yourself up for the most success in a hospital birth—even when things don’t go exactly how you pictured.
